Indian Rope Trick Revised

Hi Mark,

Re: Your request for info on the Indian Rope Trick a while ago.  We also had problems with its use last season, but it was not our technique that was at fault! it was the lift attendants inability to place the pick in the loop, he played merry hell and tried to stop us using the lift, so here is our revised procedure we will be using this year. The only modification is:
1/ The anchore point to the handle bars (lower down the stem).
2/ The length of rope used (1.7m before the loops etc. are formed).
This modification makes the loop larger and therefore easier for the lift attendant to place the pick in.

The photo's show the rope on Gail's Brenter Down Hill, but I'm sure it will work on other makes of skibike with some degree of modification. The other question we have been asked is? how many turns are needed round the handle bars! We use 3 but it depends on the individuals body weight and their grip strength, we find that more than 3 and the rope does not always unwrap from the handlebars smoothly.

Regards Mervyn.
